A message from Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz
NTID President and VP/Dean of RIT for NTID
“Wow!”
That’s what first comes to my mind when I think about NTID’s 40th Anniversary Reunion.
Our reunion not only gave attendees the opportunity to “remember, rediscover and reconnect” with other alumni, it gave us a chance to show off our beautiful campus additions.

I can still see the smiling faces of people in the hallway of LBJ, hugging their friends while checking in. The ice cream social in the Frisina Quad lingered well after dark as personal reunions continued.
The workshops and exhibits offered something for everyone, showing us the latest technology or ways to finance a house. Many enjoyed visiting the Dyer Arts Center for the first time, where a timeline showing the 40-year history of NTID was displayed. And video from past years at RIT/NTID was continually shown.
We ate well at the Sorenson-sponsored barbecue and were thoroughly entertained by C.J. Jones and John Maucere.
And I’m proud that our alumni donated more than $46,000 in the year-long campaign that ended during the reunion, surpassing our goal of $40,000. And that is doubled with federal matches, which gives us nearly $100,000 for scholarships to help future generations of students attend RIT/NTID! Thanks to Bob and Sue Mather for marshalling this effort!
We are family. We are proud of our connection to RIT/NTID. Such bonds can only strengthen our alumni chapters and solidify our network of friends. In doing so, we’re enabling students with hearing loss to make RIT/NTID their first choice for their college education. We’re showing them the thousands of successful alumni who have walked the halls before them.
I still find it hard to believe that we have current students whose parents graduated from RIT/NTID! And many of them are already grandparents!
In summary, the reunion was awesome. My thanks go out to Alumni Director Matthew Driscoll and everyone on the reunion committee who worked so hard to make the event a success. Your hard work showed!
We’ll let them take only a short breather before we get ready to plan our next reunion. I’ll see you there!
