Jobs and Employment Opportunities

As a student in the American Sign Language-English Interpretation program, you will have the opportunity to work side by side with a professional interpreter in a college, school or community setting during a practicum that provides you with real-world experience as an interpreter.

As a graduate of the program, you will be prepared to work as an entry-level interpreter in a variety of places and situations.

Interpreters work in the following settings:

K-12 schools (public and private)
Businesses
Social service agencies
Colleges and universities
Hospitals
Churches and synagogues
Government agencies
Performing arts theaters

Many interpreters are self-employed and work in private practices. The private-practice interpreter handles all aspects of his or her business, such as scheduling and billing, and they also receive assignments through interpreter service agencies.
