Raised in Rochester, NY, Karen Finch has been teaching at NTID/RIT in the American Sign Language and Interpreting Education Department since 2006, and was among the first interpreters to work at RIT/NTID in 1969. She has also taught ASL to faculty and staff at NTID, been the Chairperson of the College of Continuing Education ASL program, worked at the Rochester School for the Deaf as Parent Educator and Curriculum Coordinator for over seven years, and worked for three years with the RIT College of Liberal Arts, interpreting for Dr. Peter Hauser, a deaf psychology professor.
Mrs. Finch recently co-edited a seminal work on interpreting for deaf professionals, Deaf Professionals and Designated Interpreters, with Dr. Peter Hauser and Angela Hauser.
Mrs. Finch is married to Rev. Daniel J. Finch and they live in Livonia, NY, a small-town Finger Lakes community where they serve the United Methodist Church of Livonia. They have three adult sons and one adult “foster” daughter, three of whom are married. They also boast three grandchildren. Their home is open to those who are in need and they have housed more than 20 people for anywhere from 3 months to 4 years.
