Dr. Monikowski is a native of Philadelphia and began her career at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf as a dorm supervisor. After earning her graduate degree at Gallaudet, she worked as a Counselor at the American School for the Deaf in Hartford. While earning her doctorate at UNM in Albuquerque, she was a Lecturer in their BS degree in Signed Language Interpreting Program.
For the past 15 years, Dr. Monikowski has taught in the Department of ASL and Interpreting Education at the NTID. In addition, she presents local and national workshops for interpreters and interpreter educators and publishes numerous articles and chapters on the topic of interpreting and interpreter education. Dr. Monikowski was a member of the RIT Faculty Learning Community in 2002-03 and is currently the coordinator for the NTID Professional Development team, where she is responsible for the college’s new faculty orientation.
She lives in Henrietta with her husband and enjoys bicycling when the Rochester weather cooperates!
