Cindy Sanders, BS, MA, ABD, ASLTA Professional Certification
Cindy is an Associate Professor at the programs of Faculty/Staff Sign Language Education Program (FSSLEP) and Deaf
Studies at National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in
Rochester, NY. She currently holds the American Sign Language Teaching Association Professional
certification (ASLTA). She currently serves as a member of the ASLTA Evaluation and Certification Committee
and is an editor of the ASLTA newsletter.
Cindy has a BS and a MA in Communication at Syracuse University. She is a doctoral student at State
University of New York at Albany, and is currently writing her dissertation on the application of speech act
theory to American Sign Language. Her research interests are symbolic interaction, symbolic/systematic
semiotics, and speech act theory.
