Demonstrating and Explaining in ASL #702

Description

This course is designed to offer people with an SCPI/SLPI rating of Intermediate Plus or above opportunities to learn and practice common ASL discourse structure with specialized ASL vocabulary and strategies for using fingerspelling, numbers and classifiers when demonstrating or explaining "how to". The use of non-manual markers, pacing and strategies for checking for understanding will also be included. These exercises can be applied to classroom communication, meetings and/or presentations. Both expressive and receptive skills will be practiced.

Prerequisites

RIT and NTID faculty and staff have expressed their desire for more advanced ASL courses in FSSLEP. In response to these requests, we offer three courses on a pilot basis for six weeks each during January and February. These courses are intended for people who have an SCPI/SLPI rating of Intermediate Plus or above. From our experience this winter and from your feedback, we hope to develop these courses so that they can be offered next year for a full quarter.

FSSLEP Course Descriptions are currently being modified. Instructors will provide more current descriptions.
