Established in 2003, this fund provides academic scholarships to deaf and hard-of-hearing women enrolled in the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology. Recipients must be enrolled in the Master of Science in Secondary Education program at NTID. They must be in good academic and financial standing, have at least a 3,0 grade point average and deomonstrate financial need.

Established in 1990 by Mrs. Sara L. Kuhnert to recognize and assist one or more deaf women enrolled in a technical degree program at RIT. Mrs. Kuhnert contributed significantly to the corporate world of science and technology through a successful career at a time when few professionals were women. Her desire is to encourage young deaf women to strive to make their own unique contributions in the fields of science and technology.

Mary Jane Hellyar has been a long-time member of NTID’s Foundation Board of Directors and has served as its chairperson since 2004. Established in 2008, the Mary JaneHellyar Endowed Scholarship Fund is intended to provide scholarship support annually to deaf and hard-of-hearing women studying in the Laboratory Science Technology (LST) program with degree concentrations in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines while enrolled in programs of study at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Rochester Institute of Technology.

This scholarship recognizes and assists NTID women students with demonstrated academic promise and integrity enrolled in RIT's Saunders College of Business.
