Cooperative education (co-op) allows you to gain valuable real-world experience in the workplace by alternating your classroom study with periods of full-time employment.
RIT has the fourth oldest and one of the largest co-op programs in the world, attracting more than 1,300 employers nationwide and serving more than 2,600 students each year.
Co-op experiences are required in many RIT programs, and the benefits can be significant. A co-op will:
- Allow you to apply your classroom learning in the workplace
- Assist you in clarifying your career goals
- Give you opportunities to make professional contacts in your field
- Help you finance a portion of your education
- Provide opportunities for personal growth and independence
NTID Center on Employment Co-ops/Jobs
If you are seeking a co-op opportunity or a job after graduation, the NTID Center on Employment (NCE) can help. NCE employment specialists are in touch with what is happening in the current employment market and have contact with employers who are interested in hiring deaf and hard-of-hearing students and graduates.
RIT Cooperative Education and Career Services
The RIT Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services provides job search advice, job listings, orientations and seminars about career and job search topics and a resource library for RIT students and alumni. The office's reference service makes letters of recommendation available to potential employers at your request.
If you are a deaf or hard-of-hearing student, you may also want to work with the NTID Center on Employment.
