Tutoring
Every effort is made to match faculty expertise with student major so in the best possible situation their tutor can be the same person as their academic advisor (our staff members' areas of expertise are listed on the CIAS Support Team page).
Counseling
Provision of personal/social counseling, career decision counseling, academic advising (to undecided students and new students), referral and consultation
(see Anne Van Ginkel).
Notetaking
Notetakers are hired and trained through the Support Department. These hearing students record on paper the main points of what is said in class during lectures, discussions, reports, and/or films. Important topics or themes are highlighted, new or difficult vocabulary is defined and the material is organized to best present the class information
(see Sheila Ryan).
Assisting Prospective Students:
The CIAS Support Team helps prospective students apply to baccalaureate programs by explaining requirements, reviewing and giving feedback on portfolios, helping with paperwork, and describing the mainstreamed experience. They also facilitate with Access Services. |
