Deaf People and the Holocaust
Class Description
The study of cultural, economic and political history is an important part of social sciences as it broadens our understanding of the events in present times. Events leading up to World War II and the Nazi Final Solution will be examined. The eugenics movement towards preventing life, terminating unborn life and exterminating useless eaters will be explored in understanding how the Nazis implemented their horrific doctrine and mechanisms to the final solution. Lives of Deaf people during the Nazi regime will be investigated. The course will explore the implications of Nazi laws that restricted the rights and lives of undesirable people;Ó i.e., the disabled, gays and lesbians, Jehovah's Witnesses, communists, Romi (gypsies), Jewish people, and particularly deaf people.
