Civil Rights and Deaf People
Class Description
Reviews the history of oppressed groups in the United States and their struggle for equality. Parallels will be drawn between various groups with a focus on deaf people. Patterns of oppression and empowerment will be compared and contrasted for black Americans, Native Americans, women, lesbians and gays, and deaf people. Specific strategies and techniques employed to gain civil rights are covered. Court cases are reviewed and discussed.
