A Warm Welcome to Teaching Faculty at Rochester Institute of Technology from NTID’s Department of Science and Engineering Support!
Dear colleagues:
The National Technical Institute for the Deaf, one of eight colleges of RIT, supports students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing enrolled in degree programs in RIT’s Colleges of Applied Science and Technology, Engineering, and Science. These support services include sign language interpreting, classroom notetaking, tutoring, academic advising, and career counseling.
Deaf or hard-of-hearing students enrolled in the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Applied Sciences and Technology receive these services through the NTID Department of Science and Engineering Support (DSES). DSES also serves deaf students enrolled in NTID's technical degree programs and taking course work offered by the other colleges of RIT.
Besides direct services to students, DSES strives also to maintain liaison with administrators and teaching faculty in the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Applied Sciences and Technology. DSES faculty and staff collaborate with and serve as problem-solving resources to RIT colleagues who have deaf or hard-of-hearing students enrolled in their classes.
DSES works closely with NTID's Department of Interpreting Services (DIS), which provides sign language interpreting in and out of the classroom.
I invite you to acquaint yourself with DSES faculty and staff and the services offered to students by both. For information on whom to contact, please refer to DSES Faculty and Staff listing, or please contact me directly.
