Sign language interpreting is one of the most frequently requested support services at RIT for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Sign language interpreting services for deaf or hard-of-hearing students taking courses in RIT’s Colleges of Applied Science and Technology, Engineering, and Science, are provided by NTID’s Department of Interpreting Services in collaboration with NTID’s Department of Science and Engineering Support.

How to request interpreting and notetaking services

  • For academic classes: Students planning to use interpreting and notetaking services in their classes must submit a request for services when registering for classes. These services can be requested through RIT’s Student Information System (SIS).
  • For all non-academic meetings, workshops, extra-curricular activities: Individuals may request interpreting services for non-academic meetings, workshops, extra-curricular activities, etc. at RIT by logging in to the NTID Support and Access Services Management Information System.

Interpreting and notetaking coordinators may communicate with students about requests through their RIT e-mail accounts. Students should check their RIT e-mail accounts frequently for this information.
