Al Smith currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for College Operations at NTID. He has served at NTID for over 35 years, managing many varied responsibilities including facilities operation and construction, technology support services, computer systems and applications development, access services delivery, student and facilities scheduling and record systems, and special event and art center operations. Prior to working at NTID, he held positions in the government and business sectors, including the Department of Defense and Xerox Corporation.
Smith has twice been awarded the NTID National Advisory Group's Outstanding Service Award (1990, 1992), and has served on the NTID Strategic Planning Committee, as well as several other institute and college committees.
Smith holds a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Wake Forest University and a Master's degree in Computer Systems Management from Rochester Institute of Technology.
A married father of four (with two grandchildren), Smith has lived with his wife in the Perinton community (a Rochester suburb) for 37 years.
