Responsible for an NTID website but not sure where to start?
If your website is geared toward external audiences such as prospective students, parents, or alumni, Marketing Communications may be able to assist you with its development and/or maintenance (contact Pam Carmichael to inquire). Websites intended for internal audiences such as current students, faculty, and staff are generally built and maintained by individual departments themselves, or with assistance from EDR.
Regardless of whether your department takes responsibility for a website or turns to Marketing Communications or EDR for support, it is important that all RIT/NTID websites comply with the Web Standards that have been established by the NTID Web Advisory Committee (NWAC). If you have any questions or concerns regarding these standards, please contact Matt Dana, NTID Marketing Communications Web Manager.
If you're looking for an easy way to make sure your website meets all of the RIT/NTID Web standards, Marketing Communications and the NWAC have developed three templates that departments can use to build their websites.
In order to help departments make their websites visually appealing and easy to understand, we have assembled a list of websites where stock images can be downloaded for little or no cost. This is also where to look if you need an official RIT lettermark or logo for your project.
If you or a member of your staff would like to learn some basic Web development skills, we have compiled a list of online tutorials that can help you get started. If your department would rather not invest in commercial Web development software, see this list of "open source" alternatives.
