Prior to the creation of NTID, the vast majority of deaf and hard-of-hearing people who could find jobs worked as unskilled laborers. Now deaf and hard-of-hearing people are doctors, lawyers, engineers, business people and work in thousands of other occupations as well.
RIT was one of the first colleges in the nation to develop a co-operative education program
(co-op) that places students with employers for a hands-on work experience in the field of
their choice. NTID students find this an excellent opportunity as it gives them experience
in the real world, working with hearing people. For more information visit the NTID Center on Employment.
