A national radio series, "Access to Advancement: An Audio Exploration of the National Effort to Increase the Role of Women with Disabilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics," features TechGirlz, a week-long summer program at RIT/NTID for middle school girls who are deaf or hard of hearing. Written transcripts accompany the stories on their Web site. The radio series was funded by the National Science Foundation's Research in Disabilities Education Program.

College-Bound High School Students Can Explore Their Futures at RIT/NTID

The Explore Your Future (EYF) program at RIT offers college-bound high school sophomores and juniors who are deaf and hard of hearing a unique opportunity to experience life on a college campus, explore their interests and sample various careers. Hundreds of students from across the country participate in this six-day, summer career exploration program that provides them with hands-on activities related to careers in engineering, art, business, computers, science and more. EYF sessions for summer 2010 are July 17 to 22 and July 24 to 29. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2010.

Marcia B. Dugan, a community volunteer, author and advocate for individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, died Sunday (Feb. 7, 2010) at her Yates County home with her family after a year-long battle with leukemia. She was 78.
