RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a technology that allows you to receive instant updates on news, sports, weather, or a variety of different subjects. Your RSS "reader" program will download updates for you automatically, and notify you whenever there's something new for you to see. (If you already know how to use RSS, here's the feed link).
Here are some quick instructions on getting started with RSS, and adding NTID News to your RSS reader.
Step 1: Get an RSS Reader
A variety of programs exist that will receive and display RSS feeds. One of the most popular for Windows is called Feedreader. This program is free, and works in the background on your computer, notifying you whenever one of your chosen feeds is updated. If you use a Mac, Shrook is a good choice.
The NTID News RSS feed will also work in any online feedreader, such as Google Reader and Bloglines. You can also use the RSS feed to put NTID News on a personalized home page using services such as PageFlakes and My Yahoo.
Once you have chosen an RSS reader (and installed it, if necessary), continue to the next step.
Step 2: Add NTID News to your reader
Your RSS reader needs to know where to find the NTID RSS feed. Select and copy this URL:
http://www.ntid.rit.edu/media/rss.php
Now, add the feed address to your RSS reader. Look for a button or option called "Add new feed" or something similar. In FeedReader, the button looks like this:
Paste the feed address into the box, hit OK, and your feed reader will add the feed to its list. You may want to select the feed and hit "refresh" to make sure the newest stories are showing up.
That's it! We hope you enjoy the NTID News RSS feed.
