Job Description for Injection Molding Technician

Supervised by: Operations Management
Summary: Oversees and coordinates injection molding activities, including the operating the injection mold machine, planning and performing component changes, setting up second shift activities, trouble shooting, and performing quality checks of the process and components.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Operates the Injection molder, performs tooling changes, and minor maintenance of molds and the injection molder, ensures components meet specifications, perform new component initial setup and document parameters, and troubleshooting the injection molding process.
2. Understands component drawings and work instruction
3. Using Lean principles to plan the flow of materials through the injection molding process and develops physical layouts (including new product introduction)
4. Works with production planning to develop a production schedule to ensure deadlines are met.
5. Works with Manufacturing and Engineering to insure tooling is calibrated and has preventative maintenance performed as per schedule.
6. Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
7. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment using Lean principles to increase efficiency in manufacturing.
8. Suggests capital equipment needs and assist in developing justifications for machine tools and process technology to improve quality, cost, and cycle times.
9. Perform other duties as assigned and requested.
Education & Qualifications:
1. Technical certification for injection molding
2. Lean experience desired
3. Medical Device and/or ISO experience desired.
4. Team work and team leadership skills to work closely within department
5. Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
6. Ability to write reports, work instructions and procedures.
7. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
8. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
9. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
10. Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Inventory software.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
1. Work in a manufacturing facility that utilizes injection molding equipment, drill presses, cranes, jigs, assembly tools, testing and measuring equipment.
2. Standing most of the day, walking, climbing, and lifting Material weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.
Relationships
1. Work with individuals internal to the organization, including Team Leaders, Operations, Engineering, to insure components meet specifications and schedules
2. Participate on company teams and committees as appropriate to ensure integration of activities.
3. Work with individuals external to the organization, including any auditors, vendors or other individuals requiring specific knowledge or responsibility of a injection molding perspective.
