Department/College Description:
The Office of the Associate Dean of Research (OADR) at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) is a growing department that is charged with expanding and supporting research and funded programs in order to position the college as the preeminent national and international institution for research related to deafness and the deaf experience.  Presently, the office manages a portfolio of about $4.5 million annually. [NF1]  Research and outreach programs in the portfolio may be from a wide range of disciplines, but the college specializes in research and development in access technology; communication, language and literacy studies; teaching and learning of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals; and employment outcomes. 
The Senior Staff Specialist is a key member of the OADR administrative team and supports the Associate Dean of Research and the functions of the department.
Detailed Job Description:
This position will provide comprehensive administrative support to the newly formed NTID Office of the Associate Dean of Research (OADR).   In addition to the OADR staff, the position may also perform duties, as directed by the ADR, to support the research center directors and projects and programs that report to the ADR.
This position acts as a primary point-of-contact for the department and has frequent interaction across the college, university, and external agencies. This position is critical to assisting the OADR in providing leadership to the NTID research community.  Presently managing a research portfolio of about $4.5 million annually, the OADR is a growing department that is charged with expanding research within the college.  
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive clerical and technical support to the OADR team
  • Provides financial support for daily operations of the OADR
  • Coordinates special events and initiatives sponsored by the OADR
  • Manages departmental communications on behalf of the ADR
  • Manages Human Resources activities for the department
  • Provides administrative support for operations of the Rosica Hall research building
  • Other duties as assigned

 Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years general administrative assistance experience required
  • AS degree or equivalent experience required.

Required Minimum Education Level:  Associates or Equivalent Experience

Preferred Qualifications: 
Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of RIT Accounting policies, practices and procedures;
  • Experience with Oracle business systems applications;
  • Experience with other business systems used by RIT (Kronos, PNC, BrassRing, Pinnacle);
  • Basic knowledge of RIT Human Resources policies, practices and procedures;
  • Experience with event planning and travel arrangements;
  • Experience with budgets and budget development;
  • Experience with technical document design and desktop publishing;
  • Experience with funded research projects;
  • Knowledge of Deaf Culture and proficiency in American Sign Language.

Preferred Education Level:  Bachelors or Equivalent Experience
