Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
Both fields play major roles in much of Sandia’s work. Projects include assignments with a combination of design, analysis, manufacturing, and test activities where mechanical and electrical engineering skills are highly valued. Ourengineers work on a variety of projects involving areas such as nuclear weapons and power, renewable energy, intelligent machines, robotics, pulsed power, missile defense, field testing, remote sensing, radar system design, and micro and nanosystems.
 
Business Professionals
Sandia is a multi-program laboratory with a multi-billion dollar budget. It is up to Sandia’s business professionals to facilitate the Lab’s world-class technical activities and provide stewardship for the taxpayers’ dollars. Opportunities existin the areas of accounting, finance, MIS, marketing, project management, recordsmanagement, human resources, and supply chain management.
 
Computer Science & Engineering
Many projects at Sandia are deeply rooted in computer science research and  focused on software development. Nearly 25% of Sandia’s technical staff are CS/CE professionals.  Major projects at Sandia are in areas that include computerand network security, collaborative technologies, computational science and mathematics, visualization and scientific computing, and advanced software research and development.

Job Requirements for Student Internships

Student interns represent a significant and integral part of Sandia’s total recruitingstrategy for trained scientists, engineers, administrators, and technicians atall degree levels. Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in science,math, engineering, technology, business, or CIS/MIS disciplines are provided theopportunity to integrate their academic progress with work-related experience.
 
Internships are designed to:

  • Give students practical work experience and a chance to improve skills,
  • Offer students training and experience operating state-of-the-art equipment and instruments,
  • Identify outstanding graduates for possible full-time employment, and
  • Provide meaningful contributions as part of Sandia’s workforce.
