The National Technical Institute for the Deaf sponsors and encourages research designed to enhance the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. The following is a list of resources related to deafness and/or research at RIT/NTID.

Resources

  • The experts at NTID have developed the ASL Video Dictionary and Inflection guide - an innovative dictionary that not only shows you 2,700 signs, but shows most of them in sentences. You can see the inflections and learn how they work to help gain a true understanding of the language of ASL, not just a list of its vocabulary.
  • The Class Act program is dedicated to promoting access for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • The Clearinghouse On Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science (COMETS) is an information dissemination project funded by the National Science Foundation to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for deaf and hearing students.
  • The Deaf Initiative in Information Technology (DIIT) provides computer training workshops in sign language to deaf and hard-of-hearing adults currently working or preparing to work in the Information Technology field.
  • NTID maintains a web site for speech and language professionals.

Research

  • The NTID Educational Technology Resource Room is a unique and specialized collection of books, papers, videos, proceedings, periodicals, and newsletters with a subject specialty of deafness, deaf culture, interpreting and audiology.
  • The NTID Deaf Index was created to help locate articles, papers, publications, and information on Interpreting, Interpreting Issues, Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Deaf History, and other related materials. It contains over 15,000 entries.
  • NTID's new Center for Education Research Partnerships seeks to establish and join research partnerships concerning development and learning among deaf and hard-of-hearing students across the lifespan and in various educational settings.
