Annette Reichman
Director/Liaison
Office of Special Institutions for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services
Annette Reichman is director/liaison of the Office of Special Institutions (Supervisory Vocational Rehabilitation Program Specialist) for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education & Rehabilitative Services. She works with NTID, Gallaudet University, and the American Printing House for the Blind in developing and reviewing goals, measures, and targets as a component of the annual President’s budget request. She also reviews and makes recommendations on budget requests from all three institutions.
Ms. Reichman previously was chief, Deafness and Communicative Disorders Branch, in the U.S. Department of Education, where she worked with state vocational rehabilitation agencies to promote employment opportunities for deaf, deaf/blind, late deafened, or hard-of-hearing youths and adults. She was project officer for two national interpreter training program federal grants and was primary liaison with the Social Security Administration on several legislative issues related to VR consumers who are deaf.
She is a member of the Deaf-REACH Board of Directors and the Maryland Governor’s Advisory Board on Telecommunications Relay. She has received the Outstanding Service Award from the Arizona Deaf Senior Citizens Coalition and the Eugene Peterson Service Award on Exceptional Direct Services to Low Functioning Deaf from the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association.
She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gallaudet University, a master of science degree in rehabilitation counseling with the deaf from the University of Arizona, Tucson, and a post-baccalaureate certificate of completion from the post-employment training administration of programs serving consumers who are deaf and hard-of-hearing from San Diego State University.
