Bernard "Bernie" Hurwitz is the Executive Assistant to the President, with primary oversight responsibility for the college's government relations, human resources and institutional research. He is also the President's liaison to the National Advisory Group (NAG), and provides confidential advice and counsel to the President and the other members of the NTID Administrative Council.

He comes to NTID after several years as Coordinator of Labor Relations for the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership. Before that, as a practicing attorney, Bernie counseled private and public schools, colleges and universities while at law firms Nixon Peabody and Harter, Secrest & Emery. Prior to law school, he served as a legislative assistant in the New York State Senate and interned in Rep. Louise Slaughter's Washington office.

Bernie holds an A.B. in Politics and Teacher Preparation from Princeton University; a J.D., magna cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law; and a certificate in Contract Administration Studies from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He is president of the Rochester School for the Deaf's Board of Directors and serves on the boards of TDI and the Pittsford Little League. He is also a past commissioner of the American Bar Association's Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law.

He lives in Pittsford with his wife, Stacy Lawrence, who is an RIT alumna, and their two children.
