Interested in applying to RIT/NTID? Not sure how to begin? Use the checklist and timetable below to ensure that your application materials are submitted completely and on time.

Application Checklist

1

Undergraduate Application
Complete the undergraduate application (online or paper) and submit it along with your $50 application fee.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Applicants: An essay or statement about your intended major is helpful, but not required.

ASL-English Interpretation Applicants:An essay on why you would make a successful interpreter is required.

2 Official High School Transcript
All applicants with less than 30 college credit hours must submit a High School transcript. Submit an official high school transcript directly from your high school via fax (585-475-2696) or mail (RIT-NTID Admissions, 52 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623).
3 Official College Transcript
Request that all colleges you have attended send an official copy of your transcript directly to our office via fax (585-475-2696) or mail (RIT-NTID Admissions, 52 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623). As part of the application process a transfer credit evaluation is completed and mailed to you after acceptance.
4

ACT/SAT test scores
Submit official scores from either the SAT (send to college code 2760) or the ACT (send to college code 2824 or 2870). Students who complete the ACT may submit scores with or without the optional writing section, but the writing section is recommended. Transfer students who have demonstrated academic success on their previous college transcript may be waived from taking the SAT or ACT. Transfer students please send your college transcript so that a transfer credit evaluation can be completed during the application process.

International Applicants:
In order to demonstrate English proficiency, you will need to take the TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Because you are a deaf/hard-of-hearing student, you may request exemption from the “Listening” Section of this test at the TOEFL test center, however, because deaf and hard-of-hearing students (depending on degree of hearing loss) may vary in ability to participate in all parts of the test, it is strongly recommended that you attempt all parts of the test if at all possible.

We strongly recommend that you request interpreting accommodations if you can benefit from them. To do so, you must complete the form found on the TOEFL website.

5 Audiogram (Deaf and Hard of Hearing applicants only)
Submit the Audiological record form or submit an audiogram without the form. All audiograms must have been completed within three years of the application date.
6

Recommendation letter

Deaf and Hard of Hearing applicants only need to submit ONE recommendation - Ask your school counselor to complete the recommendation section on the secondary school transcript request form in the RIT Undergraduate Application.

ASL-English Interpretation applicants need to submit TWO recommendations - We encourage use of the ASLIE recommendation form. A school counselor recommendation on the secondary school transcript form in the RIT Undergraduate application can count as one of the two recommendations. It is recommended that at least one out of the two recommendations be from a person who is fluent in ASL.

7

If you are applying for any of the following art programs in the School of Art, School of Design, or School for American Crafts, a digital or slide portfolio is required.

If you have questions or need additional assistance, please contact your Admissions Counselor.
