Are lodging and meals provided for the students and coaches?
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) provides lodging at the Radisson Inn for up to 8 students per school and up to 2 coaches per school. The Radisson is located within walking distance of RIT. All meals are provided for participating students and their coaches/chaperones.
What are the lodging and meal options for parents who want to attend the competition with their son or daughter?
If a parent is attending as a coach/chaperone, then RIT will cover all lodging and meals as stated above. If parents are attending in support of their son or daughter, then they are responsible for their own lodging. RIT will provide meals for parents and siblings for the weekend for $50 per person.
What math level are the competition problems?
The MATHCOUNTS® organization provides all of the competition problems and materials for the math competition. MATHCOUNTS® is a national math competition for middle school students so all of the math problems are at the national standard level for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Is there any financial assistance for travel expenses?
There is limited financial assistance for travel expenses. Please e-mail your request for financial aid to mathcompetition@ntid.rit.edu.
When will I know when I am officially registered and what happens after that?
When we receive your registration form and payment or an authorization of payment we will inform you of your secured place in the competition. We will then send you additional forms as well as some training materials. The forms need to be completed and sent back to us by February 12, 2010.
What do the coaches do during the competition?
We offer a coaches’ forum as a way for the coaches to discuss strategies and ideas for math skill development and to share ideas.
