Procedures for Doing Scientific Research

Selecting the Subject

Your subject can be related to one or more aforementioned 11 categories. Once the subject is decided, doing background research and developing an experimental design are the next step in the scientific process.

Working on the Project

With approval from both teacher and administrator, your experimental project can begin. RIT National Science Fair encourages independent thinking. It is important that you or your team incorporates the scientific method to answer your own question by testing your own hypothesis(es). The ownership of your scientific project must be entirely yours or your team's. Maintaining a journal notebook to document your work is vital to the authenticity of your scientific thinking. Judges read your notebook at the fair.

Filling Out the Application Form

You and your team will need to fill out and submit the application form along with other forms for entering the RIT National Science Fair by December 15, 2011. Your application will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members and you will be notified with their decision after February 1, 2012.
