Dr. Hauser is a deaf clinical neuropsychologist and the director of the Deaf Studies Laboratory (DSL) where he supervises deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students who obtain hands-on experience developing, running, and analyzing experimental psychological studies. The DSL projects involve: (a) studying the impact of Audism and Deaf Identity on academic achievement and behavior, (b) developing instruments to evaluate American Sign Language receptive skills, (c) investigating deaf individuals’ inner voice and its relationship with literacy development, and (d) testing the psychometrics of psychological assessment instruments when used with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Since he began working at RIT in 2002, he has won the Eisenhardt Award for Excellence in Teaching (Provost’s award), the Exemplary myCourses Teaching Award (award for outstanding use of online educational technologies), and the Isaac L. Jordan, Sr. Pluralism Award (award for promoting diversity and pluralism inside and outside of RIT).
