Edward L. Scouten Endowed Fund for English Literacy

Established in 2004, this fund provides financial support to the English Department to award a two to four week internship with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID’s) English Department, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology.  The purpose of the internship is to provide mentorship in best teaching practices to promote literacy. This fund was established to honor the memory of professor emeritus Edward L. Scouten, who was a faculty member in the NTID English Department from 1970 until his retirement in 1985.  During these years, he served as chair and as teacher. Throughout his career, Professor Scouten made many important contributions to the understanding of deafness, to Deaf people, and to the teaching of English to Deaf people.
