NTID Student Life Team

The NTID Student Life Team is here to support your success in college. We offer a variety of programs and events to build a sense of community and belonging for all students. College is more than just classes and exams. Make the most of your RIT/NTID experience by getting involved, meeting new people, and pursuing your passions.

About SLT

The Student Life Team challenges and educates D/deaf and hard-of-hearing students, providing resources and support for success throughout college and after graduation.

SLT collaborates with the NTID Counseling and Academic Advising Services Department, NTID Co-op and Career Center, NTID Student and Academic Services, RIT Department of Public Safety and several offices across RIT’s Division of Student Affairs to ensure that students are provided diverse opportunities to optimize their college experience.

SLT’s co-curricular and late-night educational programming, spiritual/religious and civility exploration workshops, self-advocacy and community accountability mentoring programs, social and cultural programs, fraternity and sorority event collaborations, and club/organization advising are avenues of outreaching and networking with D/deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Student Life Team Mission Statement

The Student Life Team supports, advocates for and with, and challenges D/deaf, hard-of-hearing, deafblind, deaf disabled, and late deafened college students, while establishing and maintaining an ethic of care and concern for and in the RIT/NTID community.

SLT curates an array of student events, encompassing diverse workshops, training sessions, on- and off-campus activities, and fun giveaways. Multicultural Events

SLT is dedicated to providing multicultural events with a focus on supporting and encouraging diversity within our community and providing an inclusive environment for students from underrepresented groups, particularly Asian, Latinx, African, and Native American (ALANA). Our goal is to encourage and empower students to excel at RIT/NTID. Through our workshops and events, we aim to offer comprehensive resources and information that cater to the unique needs and aspirations of students of color, facilitating their success and development within our academic community.

Student Staff

Our SLT paraprofessionals play a pivotal role in our work. Not only do we have several dedicated teams to provide programming, workshops, and events, we also help connect community members to appropriate resources. The community student leaders run general activities, workshops, and fun events, while our multicultural student leaders run ALANA centric events and workshops. Our social media specialists curate and promote content related to SLT events and workshops and other NTID events. The student assistants assist in building management of meeting rooms, inventory, check-ins, rentals, and supporting events in the CSD Student Development Center. Together our entire team works together to foster a sense of community within the broader RIT/NTID academic environment.

Services

Our range of services includes providing guidance, ensuring access to diverse resources, and providing personalized one-on-one support for students. In addition, we collaborate with NTID student clubs, NTID Student Congress (NSC), and NSC Forums to foster a cohesive student community. We also partner with other NTID departments to ensure a robust support network for all students.

Our SLT Community Room, CSD-1050, is a great place for studying, meetings, or relaxation. We also offer a diverse range of equipment rentals, including use of our computers, sports balls, art supplies, and more, catering to the varied needs and interests of our students. Our offices are in the CSD Student Development Center, suite 1200.

The SLT offices and community room are open:
