Sport Assistant Program
Overview

The NTID Sport Assistant Program is a student-oriented para- professional employment opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing students. The Sport Assistant Program is involved in Sports, Recreation, Intramural, the Deaf Basketball Association and RIT/Gally Weekend sports events.

Sport Assistant positions are usually advertised in the Spring prior to the following Academic Year. Interviews are also conducted at that time. The RIT's Student Employment Office policies related to interviewing, hiring and payroll procedures are followed. This work experience provides a great opportunity for students to develop personal and professional skills such as organization, leadership and communication. The Sport Assistant positions are as follows:

  1. Deaf Basketball Association Coordinator
  2. RIT/Gally Sports Weekend Coordinator
  3. Deaf RIT Intercollegiate Athletics Coordinator
  4. Public Relations Coordinator
  5. Photographer(s)
  6. Video Coordinator
  7. Webmaster

These following general duties of Sport Assistants are combined with each position's job description:

  1. Attending biweekly Sport Assistant meetings.
  2. Coordinating the AppleFest Booth in early September.
  3. Support and attending Deaf RIT Intercollegiate Athletic receptions, workshops and social events and also attending some home intercollegiate athletic events to support Deaf Athletes.
  4. Work all day at the RIT/Gally Sports Weekend to provide equipment and supervision.
