Daniel Durant

Daniel was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. Daniel graduated from MSAD in 2008 and attended RIT in Rochester, NY and Gallaudet in Washington, DC. Daniel moved to Los Angeles in 2012 to join the Deaf West production of Cyrano. As his acting career took off, Daniel received high accolades for his lead performances in Terp Theater’s production of "Police: Deaf: Near: Far" and in Deaf West’s production of "Flowers for Algernon."

Following the "Spring Awakening" Exploratory Workshop with director Michael Arden, Daniel was asked to join the cast of "Spring Awakening," first in L.A., followed by the off-Broadway production in Beverly Hills. Daniel made his Broadway debut in 2015 and continued to shine on Broadway into 2016 as the co-lead role of Moritz in "Spring Awakening,: receiving rave reviews in the New York Times, National Public Radio, BBC and more.

Daniel was a recurring co-star in ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, playing the character of Matthew and co-starring in their 2013 Peabody-winning episode, entitled “Uprising.”  In 2017, Daniel joined forces with Teater Manu for performances in Norway and France as the lead role of Jonas in "Jonas and the Body."  Over the next year, Daniel will continue to participate in theatre performances, interviews, speaking engagements and educational opportunities.

Daniel is passionate about acting and supporting the Deaf community and spends his free time connecting with and meeting new friends all over the world through his ASL videos on YouTube, Deaf Gamers Network and his Facebook & Twitter accounts.
