Ruthie Jordan

An ASL Literature consultant, activist, advocacy, educator, filmmaker, performer, storyteller and survivor. As an alumna of NTID and RIT, I attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), SVP '97, and graduated with an AOS degree in Arts & Graphic Design in 2001. I also earned a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the School of Film and Animation with a minor in Women's Studies.  I joined NTID's Performing Arts department in 1998 and participated as a student, actor, ASL coach, ASL poet, assistant director and director for ten years, until I graduated from RIT in 2008. In addition, I am a 4-year veteran of the National Theatre of the Deaf/Little Theatre of the Deaf, where I was an actress and lecturer.

My journey took me in many directions after college and I am truly grateful for the seeds that were planted by those experiences that influenced and nourished my soul as a member of both the Deaf and Hearing communities.  Those seeds of knowledge grew and blossomed from my experiences as an ASL Poet, ASL Professor, ASL Coach, Educator, Facilitator, Filmmaker, Illustrator, Motivational Speaker, Survivor, Teacher for K-12, Director, and Community Volunteer. I’m passionate about sharing my life experiences through various art forms to inspire the next generation of Deaf people and so that our language and culture will flourish. I also am grateful for NTID Performing Arts for allowing my journey of discovering the gems of my passions and the flourishing of my soul.

I enjoy outdoor activities with my family and friends during my spare time.

"Being Deaf is unique and we must create our own journeys."
