First-year and Transfers to NTID Programs (Deaf/Hard of Hearing students ONLY)

Move in is ONLY on Sunday, August 12, 9am – 1pm

*you will not need to follow the move-in day instructions on the RIT Housing website (no luggage tags needed, no color coding, etc.)

*You will participate in the NTID Support Service Orientation (NSSO) seminar in addition to the regularly scheduled Fall Orientation program.  More details can be found at the RIT Orientation website.

*Move-in for Deaf/Hard of hearing (freshman and transfer) students is on Monday, August 20, 2018 - refer to the RIT Housing website for move-in instructions - beat the rush!  We need to make sure you're settled so that you can attend our NSSO seminar on Tuesday beginning at 9am.

Spring 2018 Orientation dates

Information about spring semester orientation is mailed to students with their acceptance letter. Everything listed here is subject to change, so please contact Amy Stornello for a more detailed schedule of events. Attendance at orientation is required.

Spring Semester 2018

For deaf and hard-of-hearing, first-year students and transfers to associate degree programs within the College of NTID only.











Before arriving to campus (as soon as you get your official acceptance letter):

  • Follow the Accepted Student Checklist in order.
  • If you plan to live on campus, you MUST sign up for on-campus housing and log into the Housing Portal with your RIT DCE username/password.
  • Select a meal plan (I recommend either the 10+ or 12+ meal plan as you will need to use your debit account to eat on campus during Orientation).Your official meal plan begins on Sunday before classes start with brunch @ Gracie's (inside Grace Watson Hall).

Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 8am-3pm only. No late arrivals.  

  • Move into RIT Housing (proceed directly to the Housing Operations office in Grace Watson Hall to pick up your keys/assignment)
  • Go to the Registrar's office (in Eastman Hall) to pick up your official RIT Photo ID! You will need this ID card to eat on campus using your meal plan/debit. 
  • Meet and Greet dinner gathering @ 3pm (REQUIRED!), learn about RIT/NTID resources, what to expect with placement testing, etc.

Friday, January 12, 2018 from 9am until 5pm

  • Placement exams in reading, writing, math *schedules cannot be made/given to you until we obtain these placement test results!
  • Orientation activities
Saturday, January 13/Sunday, January 14, 2018
  • Relax, decorate your space, buy your books, meet friends, get to know your way around campus, etc.

Monday, January 15, 2018

  • Meet with your department chairperson to discuss your spring semester schedule, any transfer credits, etc.
  • Meet with your academic advisor to discuss questions, schedules, support, resources, etc.

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 - classes begin! (CONFIRMED!)

Deaf/hard-of-hearing bachelor's degree level students work directly with their academic department for registration prior to arrival.

(New, incoming students who are deaf or hard of hearing, that are accepted into the other colleges within RIT (not the College of NTID), please do NOT follow the overall Bachelor-degree level student move-in day, time, luggage-tags, color codes, etc.  You are permitted to move in one day earlier so that you can participate in our orientation program to explain how NTID works, how Access Services work, how to request it, etc.  Lots of helpful information and people to meet to help you get started on your journey to being an RIT Tiger!).
