SVP

First-year and Transfers to the College of NTID Programs

(Deaf/Hard of Hearing students ONLY)

Sunday, August 11 – Sunday, August 25, 2019

Move in is ONLY on Sunday, August 11, 9am – 1pm

*you will NOT need to follow the move-in day instructions on the RIT Housing website (no luggage tags needed, no color coding, etc.)

SVP Family Orientation

Sunday, August 11 through Monday August 12, 2019

Parents: we have a comprehensive program where you will have the opportunity to meet other parents/family members, listen/watch various guest presenters, ask plenty of questions, attend a services fair, etc.  We do ask that you depart by Monday evening so that your student can focus on the SVP program.

BS-Accepted New Student Orientation for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students

Tuesday, August 20 - Sunday August 25 (refer to the RIT New Student Orientation schedule)

*You will also participate in the NTID Support Service Orientation (NSSO) workshop in addition to the regularly scheduled Fall Orientation program.  More details will be shared later.  This is REQUIRED as this is where you will learn how you will obtain Access Services, meet your NTID Support Coordinator, and learn more information about how NTID can support YOU as you go through your bachelor degree studies.

PARENTS of BS-Accepted Students: we will have a brief program for parents/families only on Tuesday - where we will explain further how NTID can support you/your student through the RIT journey: support, how to get interpreters/captioning/notetaking, etc.

Transfer Orientation (BS-Level, Deaf/Hard of Hearing students)

Transfers have several options to sign up for.  However, you are still expected to attend the NTID Support Service Orientation (NSSO) workshop.

Spring 2019 Orientation dates

Information about spring semester orientation is mailed to students with their acceptance letter. Everything listed here is subject to change, so please contact Amy Stornello for a more detailed schedule of events. Attendance at orientation is required.

Spring Semester 2019

For deaf and hard-of-hearing, first-year students and transfers to associate degree programs within the College of NTID only.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before arriving to campus (as soon as you get your official acceptance letter):

  • Follow the Accepted Student Checklist in order.
  • If you plan to live on campus, you MUST sign up for on-campus housing and log into the Housing Portal with your RIT DCE username/password.
  • Select a meal plan (I recommend either the 10+ or 12+ meal plan as you will need to use your debit account to eat on campus during Orientation).Your official meal plan begins on Sunday before classes start with brunch @ Gracie's (inside Grace Watson Hall).

Monday, January 7 (8am-5pm) or Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 8am-3pm only. No late arrivals!

  • Move into RIT Housing (proceed directly to the Housing Operations office in Grace Watson Hall to pick up your keys/assignment)
  • Go to the Registrar's office (in Eastman Hall) to pick up your official RIT Photo ID! You will need this ID card to eat on campus using your meal plan/debit. 
  • Meet and Greet dinner gathering @ 3pm on Tuesday afternoon (REQUIRED!), learn about RIT/NTID resources, what to expect with placement testing, etc.

Wednesday January 9, 2019 from 9am until 5pm

  • Placement exams in reading, writing, math *spring semester schedules cannot be made/given to you until we obtain these placement test results!
  • Orientation activities
Thursday January 10 through Sunday, January 13, 2019
  • Various orientation workshops/activities - TBA
  • Relax, decorate your space, buy your books, meet friends, get to know your way around campus, etc.
  • Meet with your department chairperson to discuss your spring semester schedule, any transfer credits, etc.
  • Meet with your academic advisor to discuss questions, schedules, support, resources, etc.

Spring Orientation for Deaf/Hard of Hearing - new, incoming Bachelor Students only (freshman and transfers)

Deaf/hard-of-hearing bachelor's degree level students work directly with their academic department for registration prior to arrival.  However, feel free to contact us if you have questions and we will help!
