The Deaf Studies Laboratory (DSL) is one of the laboratories under the NTID Center on Cognition and Language. The DSL investigates how deaf stigma has an impact on deaf individuals’ education, health, and careers. With funding from NTID’s Office of the Associate Dean of Research, the DSL studies the effects of audism on Deaf individuals’ psychological well-being and health using a social cognitive measure of prejudice known as the implicit association test. In collaboration with another NTID strategic research center, REACH, the DSL is also investigating how stereotype threat effects deaf and hard of hearing students’ math abilities with a grant from the National Science Foundation.
