Job Description for NTID Learning Center Assistant

NTID Learning Center Assistant co-op position, #3110744, is now posted for spring. 

  • Full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Spring semester co-op, for Associate-level students and any BS programs in the Business or VCS programs who would approve it as such
  • $13 an hour

The NTID Learning Center (NLC) is a deaf-friendly, accessible learning environment open to members of the RIT community. The NLC is available 74 hours/week providing student-facing services such as access to computer workstations (PC & Mac), tutoring, Resource Desk Lending Program, NLC 24-hour laptop and calculator Loan Programs, and the Multi-purpose Video Lab.  The NLC employs 12–15 Learning Center Assistants (LCAs) each academic year.  LCAs are responsible for maintaining an optimal learning environment and are trained in a hierarchy of operational tasks, such as, assisting users with computer workstations and printers; loaning resources; assisting with individual, group and class reservations; maintaining a communication log; and performing light cleaning duties. The NLC Assistant will support the NLC supervisor with daily operations, including LCA training. The NLC Assistant will also be involved with designing web and other promotional materials for the NLC, such as flyers, brochures, logos and computer screen backgrounds.

  1. LCA trainer responsibilities include assisting the NLC supervisor with providing face-to-face training to all Learning Center Assistants ensuring standardization and compliance with procedures and serving as a resource for LCAs during their shifts. The NLC Assistant provides input regarding individual LCA’s training progress to the NLC Supervisor for semester evaluations.
  2. Student web and promotional materials designer responsibilities include making improvements to the NLC’s existing website and promotional materials.
  3. Other – The NLC co-op employee is expected to attend LCA staff meetings and assist the Supervisor with providing NLC tours, when requested.

Job Requirements for NTID Learning Center Assistant

  • Exemplary customer-service skills as evidenced by previous work and/or volunteer experience.
  • Experience with web and publication software as evidenced by examples (hard copy or links).
  • Ability to use computers (PC & Mac), printers, copiers, laminator, shredder, calculator and videophone for work.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
