Job Description for Volunteer Internships

United National Association of Rochester has several volunteer internships for students who have a keen interest in global issues and/or international affairs in an NGO setting.

Description of Intern Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, organization and/or implementation of seasonal UNAR events including lectures; UNAR newsletter, Communiqué; fall Model UN; and Great Decisions Program, UN Refugee work, community work that meets UNAR mission. Coordinate and assist with administrating one or several of the above programs or events. Serve as support staff to the UNAR general membership, the Board of Directors, and administrative manager. Answer phone, fax, file, maintain records, maintain office, respond to phone requests and messages.
  • Prepare correspondence for the organization, including but not limited to research on relevant issues, letters, reports, press releases, and fact sheets.
  • Maintain and organize UNAR files, both paper and computer, for UNAR programs, projects, and special events.
  • Support and attend UNAR special events.  Some events are in the evening. 

Job Requirements for Volunteer Internships

Required Qualification/Skills:

  • Academic major or experience in international relations, international business, political science, communications, economics or related fields. 
  • Grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter, work with minimum supervision and willingness to work as a team player
  • Can provide own transportation
  • Can provide UNAR with two or three blocks of time per week

      -    Above average computer skills.
      -    Junior or senior standing.
      -    Study abroad or foreign country travel
      -    Proficiency with Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office – especially Excel
