Elmwood Dental Group
Rochester, New York

Christopher Lehfeldt, hailing from Washington, D.C., is a dentist working in private practice (Elmwood Dental Group) in Rochester and at 2 community health centers run by Finger Lakes Community Health in Sodus and Geneva. He grew up in 5 different countries, attending schools in England, with his father being posted as a Foreign Service officer. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Georgetown and then graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. After his residency at St. Elizabeths’ Hospital in D.C. and 3 years as an associate in private practice in MD, he moved to Rochester in 1991, seeing an untapped market in the deaf and hard of hearing communities for dental services given by a dentist who is fluent in American Sign Language. Through the Finger Lakes Community Health’s outreach program for underserved communities, he also provides dental treatment for migrant farmworkers and their families all across Western New York, bringing portable dental equipment and setting up sites in Head Start centers, church basements, etc.

He has served on the boards of the Rochester School for the Deaf, NTID Foundation Board, Monroe County Association for the Hearing Impaired, and has served on the Board for 10 years and co-chaired a national convention for the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf in 1994. In his free time, he hikes and camps in the Adirondacks, and loves climbing mountains for the views.
