The mission of NTID’s Professional Development (PD) Program is to initiate and coordinate professional development and training for faculty and staff to enhance professional vitality and student success.

Professional Development at NTID

NTID provides a unique professional development process designed to maintain institutional vitality by creating a community of individuals vitally interested in their own professional development.

The outcome of this process is a group of professionals who are skilled in their own content area, higher education and deaf education, and who have the ability to approach the needs of NTID students in a multidisciplinary fashion.

The Professional Development Steering Committee is charged with annually designing a year-long Institute Professional Development Plan to address the following strands:

  • Teaching
  • Communication
  • Technology
  • NTID Culture & Diversity
  • NTID Policy
  • Mentorship
  • Scholarship
  • Grantsmanship
  • Leadership
  • Workplace Skills and Productivity

Our goal is to foster the continued growth of faculty and staff as they progress through various career stages. We achieve this through collaboration with many professional development providers within and external to RIT.

We provide a range of services based on needs assessments, Institute priorities and NTID’s Strategic Vision:

  • Workshops and seminars
  • Mentoring for faculty and staff
  • Funds appropriated for individual professional growth (mini grants, Ronald D. Dodge Memorial Grant)

RIT provides faculty and staff with many options for professional growth. In addition to NTID's PD program, there are many opportunities sponsored by numerous areas, including:
