Dr. Schmitz is the senior associate dean for Academic Administration. Her responsibilities include overseeing the Office of ASL Training and Evaluation (ASLTE) as well as professional development for the college in addition to faculty hiring and promotion and tenure processes.

She also serves as the president’s liaison to the National Advisory Group (NAG).  She began her career in public affairs at RIT/NTID, becoming director of Marketing Communications, and joined the English Department as a faculty member in 2000.

She has published a number of scholarly articles and presented at many national and international conferences, and serves as editor for The Volta Review.

A native of Potomac, Maryland, Dr. Schmitz received her bachelor’s degree in English from Duke University (without any access services), her master’s degree in career and human resource development from RIT, and her doctorate in English education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
