Robert Pollard, Ph.D., is Professor and Associate Dean of Research at NTID.  He joined the NTID family in 2016.  Trained and licensed as a clinical psychologist, he also is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine where he founded the Deaf Wellness Center, a clinical service, research, and training program that he led for 26 years.

Dr. Pollard has particular expertise regarding deaf persons and mental health, sign language interpreting, and deaf population public health matters.  He has served as an expert witness in more than 80 criminal and civil cases involving deaf individuals.  He has made hundreds of invited addresses throughout the U.S. and abroad.  He has been principal investigator on dozens of federal, state, foundation, and intramural grants totaling over $6M.  He has authored or co-authored over 100 publications, including three books, and has produced 15 films in American Sign Language.  He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including several from the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Pollard is a Rochester native and steadfast fan of Rochester and the Adirondack Mountain regions, having lived and worked elsewhere (Columbus, OH and San Francisco) for only 7 years.  He resides on the Lake Ontario shoreline in Webster, NY and enjoys national and international travel, hiking and rowing, and spending time with his family of origin, most of whom still reside in Rochester.
